Isotretinoin (Accutane and others) in Rhinoplasty Patients

Isotretinoin (Accutane and others) in Rhinoplasty Patients

Rhinoplasty is one of the most frequently performed plastic surgical procedures. The majority of patients seeking rhinoplasty are young and frequently have acne as well. Additionally, patients with thick sebaceous skin have a tough time getting a defined looking nasal tip. This is where isotretinoin can help.

One of the major effects of this medicine is to shrink the size and reduce the activity of the sebaceous gland. This will result in a more refined and pleasing appearance of the nasal tip and bridge after surgery.

Therapy is started 3-6 months after surgery to allow for adequate healing. It is dosed at 30mg daily for a period of 4-6 months, with monthly Virtual Visits. Both men and women are counseled about pregnancy control and management of mental health. No labs are required except for urine or blood pregnancy tests for women of child-bearing potential. All patients are enrolled in iPledge as required by the FDA. More details are available at your initial consultation.
